Shipping and Returns

What is your shipping policy?

We ship to all mainland UK destinations within 3-5 working days, following order processing.

Shipping to the Isle of Man, Jersey and Guernsey may take longer. For shipping to these islands, please select the specific island as the 'Country/Region' in the checkout screen.

Unfortunately there is currently no international shipping available, but stay posted as that may change soon!

What is your returns policy?

Mistakes happen, and we understand that.

We accept all returns within 14 days of purchase for a full refund (minus postage return fees), however for hygiene reasons products must be entirely unused.

Even if only one toothbrush head has been used to brush teeth (or anything else), we unfortunately cannot accept the entire package for returns. This does not apply where the toothbrush is defective.

Sustainability

Why are your toothbrushes fitted with plant-based bristles, are they more sustainable?

Our bristles are derived from castor beans, instead of fossil-fuel derived nylon bristles that are typically used in most commercially-available toothbrush.

This means that the bristles can be produced with renewable materials as castor bean plants can be continually grown instead of fossil fuels which are steadily being used up with various large-scale applications.

Plant-based bristles can also help to offset some of the manufacture emissions through photosynthesis during growth.

As the bristles are plant-based, is the entire toothbrush head compostable?

The bamboo is just pure wood, with no additives. While the bristles are plant-based, they will not degrade like plants and should instead be recycled where possible.

We strive to be as open as possible with this and would advise strong caution if you see any claims of fully-compostable bio-bristles - this does not exist currently. You can read more about this in our article.

The only current solution that is commercial available uses boar (pig) hair, which are not vegan and therefore not a viable solution in our minds.

Here at Sustuff, we are constantly looking to improve and are continually devoting resources to obtaining a perfect solution, but for the time being we believe our current castor-bean bristles are an improvement on the non-biobased plastics used commercially.

Are your products made in the UK?

While our team are based in London, we manufacture in China before shipping to the UK for inspections and finalised packaging.

Bamboo might be the fastest growing plant on Earth but it does not naturally grow in the UK, so there will always be a necessity to import it from elsewhere.

We try to offset the transport emissions wherever possible by using plant-based bristles, bulk sea shipping and selling multi-packs over single toothbrushes to reduce delivery frequencies.

Other Questions

Why do some of my replacement heads not fully screw on?

Don't worry, this is normal. Wood can expand under various circumstances and this can result in a tight thread join with the handle. As long as the head is secure in the handle you can still brush away.

If you have trouble getting the head off at the end of use, we'd recommend using a pair of pliers to grip the head and unscrew.

The screw on my bamboo toothbrush head gets some mould on it after a while, is this normal?

Yes, it really is and it is not such a bad thing! Mould is evidence that the decomposition process is happening. Our things should get mouldy, especially the things that we don't keep for long. You don't see that with plastic, which is why we can't get rid of the stuff.

The toothbrush heads won't always get mouldy as it will depend on where in your bathroom you keep it, and the mould won't be on the part you brush with. It also shouldn't appear until after a fair period of use, so it is probably a sign that your toothbrush head could do with a shiny, new replacement.

Why does my replacement head screw onto the handle without the logo facing forward?

A screw join is secure and prevents the head from rotating or slipping off while brushing.

We make sure the first head is screwed on when we engrave the handle logo so that it is all pretty, but as the threads vary for each head the handle will end up in a different position for each.

We wouldn't be doing much of a job in reducing waste if we removed more bamboo just to ensure the logo was always facing forward, so for us this is a nice reminder that sacrifices should be made for improving the future. Especially ones as small as this.
